Chemo started a week ago and within 17 days from the first chemo I am supposed to start losing hair. So as I shower each morning I have been wondering, do I even need to shave anymore? When I found out I would be undergoing chemo, and then soon ran out of my favorite shampoo, I stopped buying my expensive stuff, rather I just search through cabinets for old bottles in the way back of the closet or looked for samples I had taken from hotels. I haven't had a hair cut or color since then as well. Yes my head is full of grays! And I haven't even waxed my eyebrows for fear that I will lose some of them so why not keep what I can! (Ok I do take care of the hair in between the eyebrows because I am not a fan of the uni brow.) Look at the money I am saving! No haircuts, dye jobs, waxing, no razors, shampoos or shaving cream!
So should I even bother to shave my armpits and legs anymore? Or should I just let everything get hairy for another week or so... a la Vermont? Soon enough my showers and mornings will be so much quicker! Jump in, Wash body, Jump out! Dry off, get dressed, apply makeup, throw on wig and go! I'm sure Larry will miss seeing my hair stuck to the shower walls or all over the bathroom floor! Goodbye razors, hello sleeping an extra 30 minutes!

They told me 2.5 weeks for loss too - although, even after I shaved my head it was probably closer to 3-4 weeks before it really started coming out (think much stubble on my pillow case and patchy spots). Make sure you still condition your head - my hairdresser told me to do that, not the docs. She had me use Paul Mitchell leave-in conditioner as my scalp lube. I have a giant brand new bottle I will deliver to you with the other goodies! xoxoxo
ReplyDeleteOh....and I forgot to mention I still had to shave my legs through out the entire chemofied duration of time! You lose ALL other hair...yup, there too - but for some reason I still had my legs. It was less often (1x every 3 weeks or so) but the ONE thing I was looking forward to NOT missing....alas, it was there. :-)
ReplyDeleteYou have such a great outlook on this I love it!!! Keep it up! Prayers everyday! :)

Becky I love you! You have such a positive outlook! That said, I'm voting for shaving the pits ;) XOXOX you are always in my thoughts
ReplyDeleteHey Becky- Shave the pits...it will make you feel sleek and slinky...of course that it coming from someone who doesn't have much of a beauty regime except to shave that area whenever I shower...So I guess I'm only high-maintenance in only 1 part of my life. Can I just say that you are the most amazing upbeat lady? Your humour, grace, and outlook are inspiring. That Baby Girl is going to have a fantastic time learning life's lessons from such a great Mom. You go, girl. Kick that Cancer B*tch's Ass back to what little rock she came out from under. XOXO- Rose
